2019 LCHS Annual Meeting

October 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Lyon County Historical Society Annual Meeting is Thursday, October 17 at the Cottonwood Community Center in Cottonwood.  Doors open at 5:30 pm, annual meeting at 6:00 pm, and keynote speaker at 6:30 pm.  This event is open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.

The keynote speaker is Norman Priebe. Norm grew up in Lyon County, and spent his childhood years in Marshall. He is a 1956 graduate of Marshall High School, and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1986 from South Dakota State University in Brookings. Norm worked for 39 years for Sperry Univac, 15 in the Twin Cities, and 24 in the Salt Lake City area. Norm retired in 1996, and moved back to Minnesota, setting in the Alexandria area.

During his years in Lyon County, Norm was a curious youth with a camera and an eye for local industries and events. He will share many of his photographs from the early 1950’s, including scenes from the Great Northern and Chicago & Northwestern railroads, the Ryan Field airport in Marshall, the Marshall Municipal Utilities facility, and the old Second Street truss bridge near downtown Marshall.

Norm is a long-time member of the Minnesota Historical Society, as well as the Great Northern Railway Historical Society and the Chicago & Northwestern Historical Society. Norm and his wife Jeannette reside near Alexandria, Minnesota.
