History
First settled in 1869 and organized on March 8, 1872, the Lake Marshall township is named for the lake that lies within its borders. Lake Marshall was named in honor of Governor William Rainey Marshall, who also gave his name to Marshall County.
The town of Marshall lies within the Lake Marshall Township, and it serves as the county’s seat as well as its largest city.
