SUMMARY:Community Collection: Fruits and Vegetables Display
DESCRIPTION:The Lyon County Museum\, 301 W Lyon St\, Marshall\, has a new temporary display that is on view now through October 31.  The Community Collection: Fruits and Vegetables Display is located in the museum’s Heritage Room Exhibit.  The display includes glass\, porcelain\, ceramics\, cookbooks and other décor featuring fruits and vegetables.  The display will incorporate fall fruits and vegetables décor this fall.  Pieces are from the collection of community member\, Mark Schwanebeck with supporting pieces from Marj Becker\, Ann Carrow\, Beverly Kenyon\, and Barb Zick.  All of whom volunteered their time to put the display together in the museum.  For more information\, call the museum at 537-6580 or email director@lyoncomuseum.org.

SUMMARY:2019 LCHS Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Lyon County Historical Society Annual Meeting is Thursday\, October 17 at the Cottonwood Community Center in Cottonwood.  Doors open at 5:30 pm\, annual meeting at 6:00 pm\, and keynote speaker at 6:30 pm.  This event is open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served. \nThe keynote speaker is Norman Priebe. Norm grew up in Lyon County\, and spent his childhood years in Marshall. He is a 1956 graduate of Marshall High School\, and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1986 from South Dakota State University in Brookings. Norm worked for 39 years for Sperry Univac\, 15 in the Twin Cities\, and 24 in the Salt Lake City area. Norm retired in 1996\, and moved back to Minnesota\, setting in the Alexandria area. \nDuring his years in Lyon County\, Norm was a curious youth with a camera and an eye for local industries and events. He will share many of his photographs from the early 1950’s\, including scenes from the Great Northern and Chicago & Northwestern railroads\, the Ryan Field airport in Marshall\, the Marshall Municipal Utilities facility\, and the old Second Street truss bridge near downtown Marshall. \nNorm is a long-time member of the Minnesota Historical Society\, as well as the Great Northern Railway Historical Society and the Chicago & Northwestern Historical Society. SUMMARY:Time Travelers: I Spy at the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Time Travelers takes place on a Saturday\, October-May\, at the Lyon County Museum from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.  The themes and activities are related to history and LCHS exhibits and collections.  Time Travelers is targeted to students in kindergarten through 6th grade and their families\, but is open to all ages. \nCost: Classes are free.  Sign up is recommended but not required by calling 537-6580 or email director@lyoncomuseum.org the Friday before the class. \nOctober Theme: I Spy at the Museum \nPlay a life-sized game of I Spy as you travel through time in the Lyon County Museum.  Follow the clues and record your answers in your very own Time Traveler’s Journal!
